Madikeri, or Mercara as it was known in Colonial days is the capital of Coorg ( or Kodagu ) and is home to Udaya Homestay.
Coorg is land to the Kodavas or Coorgs, a distinct race in South India whose customs, features and dress set them apart. This mountainous land was ruled by the British and the Lingayat Rajas, both of whose imprints of history remain.
